DAILY RIDER  I use this before every single ride — dial your PSI, press go, it stops itself. Changed my pre-ride routine completely.

For the first year of cycling seriously I pumped by feel. Squeeze the tyre, if it feels hard enough, ride. I was wrong about my tyre pressure more than I was right. Under-inflated means higher rolling resistance and more puncture risk. Over-inflated means less grip and a harsher ride on rough roads.

The auto-cutoff is the feature that matters

You set your target PSI, connect to the valve, press the button. When it reaches your target, it stops automatically. There is no overinflation. There is no standing there watching the gauge. You set it, it runs, it stops, you disconnect.

This sounds simple because it is. But after a year of doing it this way, going back to a manual pump feels primitive.

The PSI display

The digital display shows you current pressure clearly. You can see when you’re at 85 and it’s working towards 90. You can check tyre pressure without inflating — just connect, read, disconnect. I check pressure at least twice a week even when I’m not topping up, just to catch a slow leak early.

Practical use on daily rides

My pre-ride routine: inflate front to 90, rear to 95, check both visually, go. The whole process takes 3 minutes. Before the Portronics, I was doing this by feel in 90 seconds but getting it wrong half the time. Three consistent minutes beats ninety inconsistent seconds.

One thing to know

It’s not designed for mid-ride use. It needs a power source — you’re using it at home, not by the roadside. For on-the-go inflation I carry CO2 canisters as backup. The Portronics is your pre-ride tool, not your emergency tool.
